IAIN BURNSIDE
Sony-Award winning Iain Burnside is a well-loved presenter on Radio 3. He studied music at Oxford University and piano at the Royal Academy of Music and the Chopin Academy in Warsaw. Working as a freelance pianist, he has come to specialise in the song repertoire. It was this vocal background which led to his first work in broadcasting, presenting of Cardiff Singer of the World. Radio 3 signed him up shortly after, establishing him as the regular presenter of Voices. In addition Iain has combined his roles as pianist and presenter in a number of series, including From Where I'm Sitting on Radio 3 and The Music Party for BBC World Service. Last year saw his acclaimed series Century Songs, recorded at the Bath International Festival.
MARK SWARTZENTRUBER
Pianist Mark Swartzentruber’s recordings on Sony and Solo Records have all won excellent reviews in the international music press, establishing his reputation as an artist of the highest calibre. His regular London recitals attract enthusiastic and loyal audiences. Mark has performed for many festivals, clubs and concert series around the world and broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and Classic FM. In addition to his activities as a soloist, he enjoys chamber music partnerships with pre-eminent string players and ensembles such as the Allegri String Quartet and the eponymous ‘Swartzentruber Trio’. Drawing on his experience as Musical Director of the Shoestring Players in North Carolina, he collaborated with Franco Zeffirelli on the soundtrack for the west end production of Pirandello’s “Absolutely/Perhaps!” and worked with Richard Eyre on the music for Hedda Gabler. He has recently been appointed Music Director of the Holloway Arts Festival.
